Crossroads-Connection is a Christian community service organization that provides a Weekend Food Program for food insecure children in the public schools in Western Prince William County.  Our goal is to alleviate hunger as an obstruction to classroom learning.  Sustained by a faithful and growing community of donors and volunteers, we operate as a chartered club of Heritage Hunt and a ministry of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church of Haymarket.  We welcome all who desire to support this mission.

October 2022

CROSSROADS INCREASES SUPPORT TO OVER 300 CHILDREN

We are only one month into the 2022/23 school year, and it is off to an exciting start! Beginning in October, we'll be packing and delivering weekend meals to over 300 food-insecure children in our local schools.
We want to take a moment to thank all our volunteers, donors, and Champions for Crossroads Kids who've enabled us to increase the number of schools and children we can support.

HELP CROSSROADS KIDS BY SPONSORING A MICRO-FOOD DRIVE

Want to help provide food to Crossroads, but the thought of coordinating a food drive sounds daunting? We agree! Why not sponsor a micro-food drive? A micro- food drive focuses on collecting a small number of items (less than 5) for a short time (less than two weeks) from a smaller audience (think swim club, girl scout troop, bible study). Think something like a micro-food drive won't make a significant impact? Battlefield High School students Ethan and Josh B. collected food valued at $150 over one week by advertising their efforts on their mom's Facebook account.
Crossroads will supply you with the list of items and marketing material. We'll even come to pick up the food that you've collected. Let us know how you'd like to help by contacting us at info@crossroads-connection.org

NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE HERE!

Crossroads will pack and deliver weekend meals to over 300 Western Prince William County students starting in October. Over the next few months, we'll be rolling out new opportunities to help.  Check out Sign Up Genius for various dates, times and activities.

Pre-Packing Support:  Individuals or groups who help with "pre-packing support" will help unbox, organize and inventory food items used to pack weekend meals.

Packing: Individuals help pack the weekend meal bags that will be distributed to food-insecure students.

Delivery:  Delivery drivers pick up meals from our location and deliver to the school office.  Please note, some schools have a larger number of students who participate so we may require multiple drivers OR request only drivers with large capacity vehicles.

Bulk Food Delivery Support:  Help unload and organize our bi-monthly bulk food delivery.

The Challenge

Crossroads-Connection works with counselors at local public schools to identify students who are impacted by food insecurity; Crossroads provides weekend food to those students.  Funding comes from local churches, the Heritage Hunt Women's Organization, the Giving Circle of Heritage Hunt, The Women's Club of Dominion Valley, local businesses, and individual donors.  The number of children served each year depends on available funding.

Looking Back In Time...  Just 5 years ago our organization was reaching 40 children at 4 schools.  Today, thanks to donors and volunteers, we are committed to helping up to 300 children at three times as many schools.  Can you help?

The 2022-23 School Year commitment is to serve up to 305 children.  School counselors are evaluating their students' needs so our list of schools supported will change regularly.  Participating schools include:

  • Battlefield High School
  • Buckland Mills Elementary School
  • Bull Run Middle School
  • Chris Yung Elementary School
  • Glenkirk Elementary School
  • Gravely Elementary School
  • Mt. View Elementary School
  • PACE West School
  • Piney Branch Elementary School
  • Sudley Elementary School
  • Tyler Elementary School
  • Victory Elementary School
